The Story behind the brand House of Horses Helsinki
A nordic breeze in the world of the equestrian fashion. House of Horses Helsinki is Scandinavian feeling and functionality combined to a trendy and feminine sports wear. For equestrians and equestrian minded people – the outfits can be worn also ”after stables” as leisure wear.
House of Horses Helsinki was born from the desire of fashion designer Irene Mikaela Häggkvist to design functional, innovative and aesthetically strong riding equipment. Because she is a designer and riding is her dear hobby, she faced some issues that could be solved by good functional design. Also what she noticed when going to stables – there were no Finnish design equestrian brands. None. So she decided to create one – that is fun, functional, fashionable and fresh. Something you just want to wear in stables and after stables, where ever you go. Comfort and good materials are one of the focus points in the collection. And of course everything has to look good but most importantly make you feel good too! Feeling positive and strong is one of the HoH messages – like it says in the bestseller T-shirt “I’m a Horse Girl and proud of it!” And thats what HoH customers truly are <3
“What I love about House of Horses clients is that they come all around the world and in all ages. They have one thing in common though. Their love for horses. ” Designer and founder Irene Häggkvist
Irene is a Finnish fashion designer born in 1985. She studied for the Master of Arts (clothing design) in the University of Lapland and the prestigious Istituto Marangoni of Milano (Master of Fashion Design). Year 2009 she won the Swarovski design contest and the works were presented in the fashion shows in Milan, Paris and London. Her works have been in Finnish and Italian Elle, Haute Couture Collezione, www.vogue.it -webpage, and Wallpaper Graduates Directory 2010. She has also designed a jewellery collection for Kultakeskus and project for several companies, for an example Rovio. She has lectured of fashion and fashion history for several years. After creating the House of Horses brand in 2016 she has solely concentrated on building the brand, and the growth in Scandinavia has been very fast.
The problems she solved and made HoH products immediately popular were for an example the fit of a hoodie while riding, she made the back longer and sides that open with zippers. Or how to store the big stirrups, that are so much in fashion but hard to store without harming the saddle – she designed the Stirrup Bag that was also featured in the Reiter Revue magazine (Germany) 2/2017. Irene was also interviewed for Iltalehti Ilona in July 2017 about the story of House of Horses. See the story in House of Horses -media pages.

“The world of House of Horses always includes a hint of pink. Like life should! 😉 When I get to design equestrian wear, it’s like a dream come true – I know it sounds a cliché, but it really is. I love every moment I have had creating HoH and seeing people wearing it and taking it part of their everyday wardrobe. Nothing is more rewarding. And I have really amazing customers! They keep me going.” Irene Häggkvist
